Observing Glaciers

The glaciers evolution is one of the important indicators chosen by the IPCC group (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) to assess climate variability and trend over the past decade. Glaciers are now considered as an essential indicator for the past as for the future.
In this context, the "National Observation Service" GLACIOCLIM (SNO/INSU) operates monitoring on nine sites around the world (Alps, Andes, and Antarctica) to which the "long-term Observation and Experimentation System for Environmental Research" CRYOBSCLIM (SOERE/All’envi) adds two glaciers (in Himalaya and in the pyrenes). Each of these sites represents a specific climate zone.
